Tempo Italiano Memories Cookbook
By Pam and John Richetta
Tempo Italiano, was created in the late months of 1997 by Richetta Promotions as a means of helping people to recreate a small part of what is so vital to Italian Americans still today - their love of music. The show, which airs from 9AM to 3PM every Sunday on am1400 WEST in Easton, PA., is a mixture of Italian music from many generations plus selections of songs done by Italian American artists. The weekly program also includes stories about Italian life long ago.
One the most important and heartfelt expressions of a person's heritage in every culture are the memories that are created for future generations. Sadly, as generations pass, these recollections fade and the stories and pictures that were created are lost with time. A little over three years ago Tempo Italiano embarked on another vehicle to help preserve many of these memories and to further sustain the rich culture and heritage that Italians have brought with them from their homeland. We began doing research and interviewing families for stories that became a part of a Tempo Italiano page in the weekly publication of The Italian Tribune. Frequently the information that has been shared with us for these stories has come from more than one generation. Our research has also helped us to be able to write several histories about Italian American organizations in the Lehigh Valley, Italian landmarks throughout the community and Italian American businesses whose roots were created and borne by Italians in their early years of making this country their homeland. These stories frequently encompassed a certain amount of research but they have all included memories and information that have been passed down from earlier generations.
In order to preserve these memories even further, the Tempo Italiano Memories Cookbook was created and released in August, 2005. The Tempo Italiano Memories Cookbook will help to further maintain and preserve those long ago memories for future generations of families! Over one hundred and fifty family names with stories and pictures are included within the pages of the Tempo Italiano Memories Cookbook. Also included in the Tempo Italiano Memories Cookbook are two hundred recipes that were provided to us by Tempo Italiano listeners and the popular chefs and restaurant owners who are a regular weekly edition of the "In the Kitchen with Tutti" segment that was a part of the Tempo Italiano show every Sunday. If you heard a recipe on Tempo Italiano you will probably find it in the pages of the Tempo Italiano Memories Cookbook and if you submitted a family recipe to Tempo Italiano, more than likely it is a part of this book, too. The best part about the Tempo Italiano Memories Cookbook is that it provides true stories about Italian Americans and their heritage plus family recipes as well as those from many restaurants throughout our area.
